I'm relatively new to raiding, however my fiancee is a veteran of 40 man runs back in the day and has helped me improve my raiding skills considerably. I've been in 10/25 Naxxramas, 10 EoE, 10 Ulduar, 10/25 OS

Sorry to hear what? I worked on C&C Renegade in 2002 as a level designer, so I wanted to get back into the industry with a degree that backs what I'm capable of. :P

#1- Don't log out in PVP gear if you want into a PVE guild.
#2- Unless the gear has massively improved since that Naxx run I posted, I didn't see any DPS that screams "invite me." 3200dps on Patch. WTF

Yeah, I forgot to log out with my raiding gear on. I haven't been as fortunate as my fiancee to get all of the items I need but I've made some massive improvements in DPS since that last combat log where you came in to help us. I'm re-logging and I'll leave my raid gear on today so you can see what I'm using and get a better idea of what I can do... I have a habit of leaving my PVP gear on all the time when I do dailies and such.

Unfortunately right now we don't have the melee spots available for someone who still needs some improvements in gear/dps. Improve your DPS/Gear and fell free to apply again.

Cool, congrats - if you've actually done something you're leaps and bounds above most Art Institute graduates.
My past and current employers have a separate pile for AI graduate applications next to the desk in the trash can and refuse to hire any. The three people who held my position before I started working here were all AI graduates that were subsequently fired all in less than six months. Having combed through their work I understand why the owners hate that school so much. 
Different field from Game Design though, Graphic/Website Design over here.

It's much like any school.. Having talent isn't innate, it's learned, and if you refuse to learn then your work is going to be sub-par compared to your colleagues.

Dig through my portfolio sometime and get a feel for my work. I can definitely agree with the average Ai person being kinda "bleh", trust me I run across them in AiTA all the time. It just makes me feel sorry that these guys are racking up $80,000 and more of debt and don't have the talent to pay it back.
